theScore, Inc. (http://mobile.thescore.com) is an independent creator of mobile-first sports experiences, connecting fans to what they love through an addictive combination of comprehensive and personalized real-time news, scores, stats and alerts via its mobile sports platforms theScore and theScore eSports and fantasy sports contests via QuickDraft.
theScore is seeking a business-minded technology lawyer to join their dynamic sports and entertainment business operations in downtown Toronto as Senior Legal Counsel. This position will report to the President & COO on a wide range of legal and business matters in support of the company’s strategic growth. The successful candidate’s duties will include but not be limited to:
- preparation and negotiation of agreements relating to intellectual property, including software development and distribution agreements, end user license agreements, technology consulting agreements, software/platform-as-a-service agreements, advertising technology and advertising network agreements, marketing and sponsorship agreements, and content development and licensing agreements;
- advising on a wide range of intellectual property matters, including copyright, user conduct, data security and open source software;
- management of external counsel with respect to theScore’s international trademark and patent filing, prosecution and enforcement efforts
- assist with other legal and regulatory issues as they arise, including developing areas of law and regulation relating to fantasy sports contests
The ideal candidate will have 6-10 years of technology law experience gained from a leading law firm or corporation as well as a strong interest in the sports industry. Good standing with a US Bar Association would be considered an asset.
