General Accountability

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for the Organizing Committee for the Toronto 2015 Pan American/Parapan American Games (“TO2015”) assist in the day-to-day legal affairs of the corporation with a primary emphasis on contract preparation, negotiation and management.

Key Job Responsibilities

    • Review, negotiate and draft a wide variety of contracts and agreements
    • Provide support to the General Counsel and other members of the Legal Department and guidance to TO2015 function heads on other legal issues and projects, as required, to implement the Games in a variety of areas, such as marketing and commercial rights management, procurement, employment, governance, etc.
    • Provide advice/counsel to staff on statutory and contractual compliance issues (e.g., health and safety, environment, accessibility, procurement, etc.)

Educational/Technical Requirements

    • LLB; member in good standing of the Ontario Bar
    • 3 to 5 years of professional legal experience, including relevant large law firm experience
    • Experience with a wide range of corporate commercial matters and contracts
    • Exposure to various corporate policies and management issues
    • Exposure to a number of other areas of law, including intellectual property, marketing, governance, privacy, entertainment, procurement, employment, labour, etc.
    • Excellent drafting, editing and verbal communication skills
    • French and/or Spanish language skills
    • Membership in one of the Toronto’s diversity communities is an asset

    • Comfort with entrepreneurial/start-up type of environment with high level of media focus and public/government scrutiny

TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee

The Pan American and Panamerican Games are one of the world's largest international multi-sport events, held every four years for athletes of the 41 member nations of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) and 28 member nations of the Americas Paralympic Committee (APC). The Pan American Games are comprised of all Olympic Summer Games sports, as well as traditional Pan American sports, while the Parapan American Games are comprised of the majority of Paralympic Summer Games sports. The TORONTO 2015 Pan American/Parapan American Games will draw more than 10,000 athletes, coaches and team officials and feature 51 sports in municipalities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe area. The TORONTO 2015 Pan American Games will take place July 10?26 and the Parapan American Games August 7?14.
