Miller Thomson LLP, one of Canadas largest national law firms, is seeking an Assistant Director, Student and Associate Programs, Ontario and Québec for a 1-year maternity leave contract.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the student and associate programs. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Managing the annual law student recruitment process, including participation in career fairs, managing collateral materials (print and website), screening resumes, conducting on-campus interviews and coordinating participation of other Student Committee members, conducting interviewer training, corresponding with applicants, organizing and overseeing interview week, managing applicant database and record-keeping, preparing and analyzing statistical reports
- Designing, organizing, delivering and supervising summer and articling student programs, including orientation, ongoing training, mentoring, event planning, performance evaluations, monitoring workflow and coaching
- Developing initiatives to build law firm profile through liaison with law school Career Development Officers and Deans, and with individual students; identifying and pursuing strategic marketing opportunities, including organizing sponsorship of student groups/events/committees, advertisement placement and promotional materials
- Supporting national initiatives, such as the Diversity Committee and the Womens Leadership Initiative
- Managing associate programs, including the recruitment of lateral associates, mentoring and leadership initiatives
- Managing the evaluation processes for associates, including drafting and delivering performance evaluations
- Assisting with the supervision and development of members of the professional development team
- Liaising, and travelling to offices in Ontario and Québec
To be successful in this role, you possess:
- A law degree with excellent academic credentials, 5 years experience practising law in a firm setting and are a member in good standing with the Law Society, or have experience in recruitment/professional development/human resources in a firm setting
- Familiarity with market trends and best practices in professional development
- Solid organization skills with strong attention to detail, the ability to multitask and set priorities
- Proven project management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and coach associates, students and administrative professionals effectively
- Fluency in French is an asset
