Renaud Garon Gendron joins Smart & Biggar

Smart & Biggar is pleased to announce that Renaud Garon Gendron has joined the firm's Montreal office as an associate.

Renaud Garon Gendron’s practice focusses on litigation in all areas of intellectual property law, notably in the fields of trademarks, patents and copyright & media. Renaud has experience preparing written submissions, pleadings and motions in the Federal Court, Federal Court of Appeal and the Quebec Superior Court. He is involved in all steps of a litigation file notably sending cease and desist letters, collecting and organising evidence for affidavit of documents and preparing cross-examinations. He is also involved in preparing legal opinions and providing clients with registrability and availability opinions for proposed trademarks. In addition, he helps clients dealing with provincial language requirements and compliance with the Quebec Charter of the French Language.

Renaud’s clients include Canadian companies and individuals in a wide array of industries, including retail goods, sports equipment, food and beverage, tobacco, dental prosthetics, software and technology who are seeking patent protection in Canada and abroad, as well as associate firms located internationally seeking to obtain patent protection in Canada for their foreign clients. Renaud provides creative solutions tailored to the needs of the client and the reality of the market they are in. He ensures their IP assets are protected and managed in order to gain value.

During his legal studies, Renaud was the recipient of the Wilson Lafleur award for the best academic result in Civil Procedure. During his undergraduate studies, he did two internships, for a total of 8 months, with in-house counsel in an international consulting engineering firm.
