Derek Flaman Joins Torys’ Calgary Office

Torys is pleased to announce that Derek Flaman has joined the firm as a partner in the Oil and Gas Practice.

Derek Flamans practice focuses on commercial law in the energy sector, with an emphasis on M&A, joint ventures and project development in the oil and gas industry. His experience includes expertise in the acquisition and divestiture of upstream, midstream and downstream assets, onshore and offshore exploration and production matters, pipeline and transportation matters, as well as the marketing of energy and energy-related products.

Derek has extensive experience in the development and operation of offshore petroleum projects both in Canada and abroad. He has also structured, negotiated and drafted major contracts related to all aspects of exploration, appraisal and development of onshore and offshore energy, including construction, engineering and supply contracts.

Derek has also acted for energy marketing companies and institutional lenders involved in derivatives transactions and the marketing of crude oil, natural gas liquids and electricity. He has reviewed and negotiated wholesale trading contracts and related contractual documentation such as International Swap Dealers Association master agreements and other forms of financial trading contracts, as well as physical gas and power sales contracts.
