Neil Padgett joins Smart & Biggar

Smart & Biggar is pleased to announce that Neil Padgett has joined the firm's Toronto office as an associate.

Neil Padgett’s practice focusses on assisting clients in both obtaining and exploiting intellectual property rights, particularly in relation to computer-implemented inventions. He responds to office actions, drafts patent applications and advises clients on legal issues relating to their intellectual property portfolios. Neil’s clients include high-technology companies, both established and start-up, as well as individual inventors.

During his legal studies, Neil served on the Senior Board of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law Review as Senior Editor for Intellectual Property and was awarded the academic prize for highest grade in a course or courses concerned with intellectual property.

Prior to joining the firm, Neil gained extensive industry experience as a software engineer through his work on projects spanning distributed systems, cloud computing, data storage and processing and related technologies. He brings to his practice of law a deep technical expertise coupled with a practical understanding of product development.
