Director, Legal and Government Affairs / Legal Counsel (Sports & Entertainment Company)

Our client, a household name in the sports and entertainment industry, is looking for junior counsel to join its offices in downtown Toronto.

Reporting to the Vice President, Legal and Government Affairs, you will assist with the drafting, review and revision of day-to-day commercial contracts for the organization, including, but not limited to, sponsorship agreements, marketing / promotional initiatives and related materials, contractor and vendor agreements, licensing contracts, and a myriad of other unique and specialized contracts and materials.  Although your primary responsibility will be drafting and reviewing commercial agreements as well as marketing and promotional materials, you will also work on other legal and business matters as assigned by the Vice President, which may include advising internal business units, assisting with negotiations, research, policy and legislative review and compliance oversight.

The right candidate for this job will have between 2 and 4 years of practical experience with contract drafting, negotiation, and interpretation in a wide variety of contexts and a proven ability to understand, analyze and develop commercial relationships and contracts in new and unique circumstances (with and without reference to contract templates). You must be able to work at a fast pace with minimal supervision or assistance. You must possess solid legal and business acumen and judgment, permitting you to provide well-considered, but also practical, advice. Excellent organizational ability and a strong work ethic are essential.  You must be able to think critically, analytically and strategically.  Diplomacy and interpersonal skills are also required.
