CLAIMS LEADER
Trisura is searching for a leader of Claims (title and remuneration to be determined). This national position, reporting to the Co-CEOs, will be responsible for the professional and administrative management of claims within the Surety, Corporate Risk and Risk Solutions groups. The role has responsibility to investigate, evaluate, and resolve claims directly and in conjunction with external counsel and claims adjusters. A strong knowledge of all aspects of the claims process is essential, as well as a recognized ability to work with a team of professionals.
The successful candidate will be expected to thrive in a challenging, fast-paced environment and will have an opportunity to greatly influence our organizations development with respect to these areas in keeping with Trisuras long range vision and strategic plan. Trisura commenced operations in 2006 and currently employs 62 professionals in 4 offices including Toronto (head office), Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal. Our plan is to be a $100 million revenue company with 85+ staff by 2015.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
· Responsible for all aspects of the claims process including: coverage evaluation; setting initial claim reserves; reviewing, interpreting, negotiating and drafting agreements and responses to insureds, brokers and claimants; negotiating settlements and authorizing payments as required, and co-ordination of recoveries
· Assigning responsibilities to, and monitoring of, external adjustors and legal counsel
· Work closely with, and make recommendations, to senior executive on larger, more complex claims files
· Support underwriting teams on a National basis assisting on wording, coverage and policy issues
· Assist underwriting teams in helping train staff to enhance and improve technical and risk control capabilities
· Act as a resource to underwriting teams in contract and policy wording interpretation
· Establish clear claims processes and procedures throughout the organization
· Execute the claims strategy in support of the corporate strategic plan
· Meet or exceed operating-plan financial targets through management and control of claims expenses
· Continue to enhance and advance the delivery of exemplary customer service standards
· Lead various projects within Claims that will improve efficiencies or reduce loss costs
· As a secondary responsibility, provide general corporate counsel as required
· Ultimately build and develop a claims team
· Travel will be required
Job Qualifications:
· LL.B. from a recognized university, together with minimum 7 years experience with a specialty in contract or insurance law
· Member of the Law Society of Upper Canada
· E&O, D&O, Fidelity and Surety claims experience a definite asset
· CIP/FCIP an asset
· Strong strategic thinker and decision-maker with the ability to develop relationships through demonstrated personal integrity
· Proven demonstration of leadership capabilities and comprehensive knowledge of claims operations and processes
· Excellent communication and presentation skills
· Strong analytical problem-solving skills, financial skills and business acumen
· Strong relationship management and demonstrated engagement capabilities with key stakeholders
· Proven project-management skills
· Ability to influence across the organization
· Ability to work with and lead a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with competing priorities and timelines while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines
· Bilingual (English/French) a definite asset
